Similarly, we can see that Shakespeare has made this play to be anti-semetic as in Act 1 scene 1 Shylock says to Antonio ‘Fair sir, you spat on me on Wednesday last…..Another time You call’d me dog’ this shows anti-Semitism towards shylock as Antonio has been calling shylock a dog and has also been spitting on him, which therefore shows us that Antonio had no respect for shylock or any other Jew. We know that the Jews were discriminated in Venice a long time ago. But Shakespeare seemed toput these dreadful acts in the play to make the audience laugh which isn’t really fair.

Paragraph 1
The merchant of venice is anti-semetic in many ways. One of these ways is when shylocks daughter runs away with lorenzo and his ducets, we know this because shylocks says ” my daughter! Omy ducets o my daughter!” This show us that shylock cares more about his money than his daughter. This links to shakespeare making his charector of shylock anti-semetic as jews were known to be good with money and cared alot about money so therefore this is anti-semetic. This stereotype came from venice when jews were only money lenderers.
How is the merchant of Venice anti-semetic ?
This essay will be based on how the merchant of venice is anti-semetic. Anti-semetism is discrimination towards jewish people. Many jews were to be shown as money lenderes and nothing else. Also one of the main charectors shylock is shown to be only foccused on his money. Furthermore i will be showing how the jews were disrespected at that time. Putting are focus away from the play jews lived in ghetto places in venice and were described as being the first ghetto people this was an act of semetism as they lived away from the christians, so therefore we can relate to where shakespeare is coming from.
